About

Superyacht Canada is a new initiative dedicated to fostering the growth of the superyacht industry along our vast and stunning coastline.

Canada’s coastlines offer extraordinary cruising opportunities, yet face challenges in infrastructure, regulations, and industry awareness. Our mission is to unify stakeholders, advocate for industry advancements, and provide a central hub for trusted information.

Purpose Statement

Our organization is dedicated to supporting and expanding the superyacht industry along Canada’s Coast. With over 243,000 km of breathtaking, largely untouched coastline, our country offers unparalleled opportunities for exploration and investment. However, compared to established yachting destinations like the Mediterranean and Caribbean, our industry is still in its infancy. We aim to bridge this gap by fostering industry growth, improving infrastructure, and advocating for policies that enhance the country’s appeal to the global yachting community.

To ensure the continued success of the superyacht industry on Canada’s Coast, we serve as a coordinated voice for businesses, stakeholders, and government partners. Many of the regulations governing the pleasure yachting industry are outdated or inherited from unrelated sectors. We work to advocate for legislative reforms, drawing inspiration from progressive changes made in countries such as Croatia, New Zealand, and Australia.

One of the key challenges in our market is the lack of organized, accurate industry data. By gathering, distilling, and sharing valuable insights, we help businesses, investors, and yacht owners make informed decisions, fostering confidence in the country’s potential.

Changing Perceptions & Strengthening Public Support

The yachting industry is often misunderstood, perceived as an exclusive pastime of the ultra-wealthy. In reality, it generates significant economic benefits, including job creation, investment in local businesses, and increased international awareness of Canada’s Coast. We are committed to improving public understanding of the industry’s positive contributions while positioning our region as an attractive and well-supported yachting destination.

Promoting a Fresh Perspective on the Pacific

Misinformation about the various regions of Canada—its climate, accessibility, and infrastructure—continues to deter international yachters. Through strategic communications, industry engagement, and international outreach, we are reshaping the global narrative and positioning Canada’s Coast as a premier yachting destination and a gateway to the broader Pacific yachting industry.

Stewardship & Sustainability

The natural beauty and ecological integrity of our waters set our coasts apart from other cruising grounds. As ambassadors for this extraordinary marine environment, we are committed to responsible development and sustainable practices that ensure its protection for future generations.

By fostering industry collaboration, advocating for policy improvements, and elevating the country’s global profile, we are paving the way for a thriving superyacht industry on Canada’s Coasts—one that is organized, sustainable, and recognized worldwide.

Beginnings

In July 2019, Community Marine Concepts Ltd. (CMC) completed the Victoria International Marina—the first marina on the Pacific coast dedicated to serving large yachts. To ensure the marina’s design and function met industry needs, the team consulted with regional large-yacht professionals and was both surprised and grateful to discover an exceptional depth of knowledge and expertise within this community.

At the 2018 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, several of these professionals gathered to explore the idea of a West Coast superyacht rendezvous in collaboration with Boat International. That conversation sparked further discussions about forming a Canadian association to better represent the country’s growing superyacht sector.

Momentum continued at the 2019 Seattle International Boat Show, where the U.S. Superyacht Association announced its commitment to collaborating with a new Canadian superyacht association to strengthen industry ties between both nations. In October 2019, the Superyacht Canada Association was officially registered as a non-profit, and in February 2020, a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the two associations.

The onset of COVID-19 put many of our plans on hold, as industry members focused on adapting to the challenges of the pandemic. Now, with renewed energy, we are excited to move forward in shaping the future of Canada’s superyacht industry.
