The Captains Committee
Empowering Captains. Strengthening Canada’s Superyacht Industry.
The Superyacht Canada Foundation is establishing a Captains Committee as a committee of the Board of Directors to provide a dedicated forum for professional yacht captains working in, visiting, or supporting Canadian waters.
Captains play a central role in the superyacht industry. They manage vessels, lead crews, support owners and guests, navigate complex operating environments, and help ensure safe, professional, and compliant operations. Through the Captains Committee, Superyacht Canada aims to create a stronger connection between captains, the Canadian marine sector, regulators, service providers, and yacht owners.
The committee will help identify opportunities, challenges, and priorities affecting captains and the broader superyacht sector in Canada. Over time, this may include supporting professional recognition, sharing practical knowledge, improving access to reliable information, and helping shape resources that benefit both captains and the vessels they serve.
Current Focus: Pacific Pilotage
The first area of work for the Captains Committee is the development of a Pacific Pilotage Sub-Committee. This sub-committee will focus on pilotage-related information, resources, and communication for captains operating in British Columbia and along Canada’s Pacific Coast.
Future Areas of Focus
As the Captains Committee develops, future areas of work may include:
- Captains membership and professional networking
- Resource sharing and knowledge exchange
- Career and professional development opportunities
- Captain profiles and member visibility
- Owner-captain connections
- Input on industry standards, policy, and advocacy
- Regional cruising knowledge and best practices
Superyacht Canada is committed to working collaboratively with captains and industry partners to support a professional, connected, and informed superyacht sector in Canada.
