Doug is a distinguished Maritime professional with a 33-year career spanning commercial fishing, elite vessel command and emergency coordination. Doug offers unparalleled expertise in Inside Passage navigation, specializing in aquaculture logistics and Super Yacht piloting from Seattle Washington to Juneau, Alaska. Doug is a proven offshore navigator with blue water experience extending from Glacier Bay Alaska to Hawaii and Tahiti.
Doug was with the Canadian Coast Guard (SAR) Search and Rescue for 20 years in several capacities. He served as a Marine Controller at JRCC Esquimalt, managing distress calls and dispatching air and marine assets for coastal emergencies, environmental protection, Fisheries Patrol and Oceanography.
As a lifelong mariner Doug began as a deckhand on commercial hook and line salmon trollers, his career has proved opportunity to work aboard cable laying vessels, cutter suction dredges and to command some of the largest well boats operating in Canadian waters,
In recent years Doug has provided Pilot Waivered Services to the Super Yacht and commercial vessel sector. This has been a terrific opportunity to showcase his vast local knowledge of the British Columbia Coast and communities.
Doug qualifies for the Pacific Pilotage Authority Waiver in Zone 1, Fraser River, Zone 2, (north and south inside waters of Vancouver Island), Zone 3 (the west coast of Vancouver Island), Zone 4, (central coast waters from Pine Island to Dixon Entrance) and Zone 5 (the Queen Charlotte Islands, Haida Gwai).
