Captain Mike Simpson, Master 500, Tugboat 3,000 Near Coastal (NC), GOC

Senior Member SCPWC
Member of the Canadian Merchant Service Guild
Member of the Master Mariners of Canada

Mike has been an active professional mariner for over 35 years. His early roots were in the commercial fishing sector, longlining halibut off the west coast of Canada. The experience led Mike to sign up with Princess Cruises, as Safety Officer, sailing this prestigious cruise ship line throughout South East Asia and the South Pacific ports.

Mike then entered the coastal commercial towing industry and had the opportunity to access the remote regions of the BC coast delivering equipment and supplies to small communities, townships, remote camps and wilderness retreats. In addition to his vast towing experience Mike is a certified ASD ship berthing Master. Mike has logged many miles on the BC coast pushing/towing fuel barges.

Mike has extensive coastal experience towing from British Columbia through Washington and Oregon waters. As Master on research vessels, Mike conducted sea trials on submarines and ROV’s.

In recent years Mike has provided Pilot Waivered Services to the Super Yacht and commercial vessel sector. This has been a terrific opportunity to showcase his vast local knowledge of the British Columbia Coast and communities.

Mike qualifies for the Pacific Pilotage Authority Waiver in Zone 1, Fraser River, Zone 2, (north and south inside waters of Vancouver Island), Zone 3 (the west coast of Vancouver Island), Zone 4, (central coast waters from Pine Island to Dixon Entrance) and Zone 5 (the Queen Charlotte Islands, Haida Gwai).
